Instruction Manual
QUICK START
• Press Triputa and Press Start for Aadi Talam.
• Press Variation for different Thekas.
1. Plug in the mains cord; two pin male socket into your AC power supply &
female socket in the male socket of the instrument. Note: Add-on flat two pin AC converters available.
2. Switch On Mridanga Talam Digital using the Volume On/Off knob.
3. A complete Talam is defined by Talam, Jati & Nadai. Therefore First
a. Select Talam (Press Any One)
i. Dhruva
ii. Matya
iii. Roopaka
iv. Jhampa
v. Triputa
vi. Chapu
vii. Eka
viii. Ata
Display will show selected Talam in this fashion [ t – a ]
(i.e.: t for Talam and a for ATA or [ t – r ] i.e.: t for Talam and r for
Roopaka)
b. Select Jati (i.e.: Press Jati & Press any one number as Jati)
i. 3 » Tishram
ii. 4 » Chatushram
iii. 5 » Khandam
iv. 7 » Mishram
v. 9 » Sankeernam
Display will show selected Jati in this manner [ J – 4 ]
(i.e.: J for Jati and 4 for Chatushram or [J – 5] i.e.: J for Jati and 5 for
Khandam)
Note: The machine will take Jati as 4 (Chatushra) if no Jati is selected. Only
for Chapu & Ata talam the Jati will be taken as 5 (Khandam)
c. Select Nadai ie:Press Nadai & Press any one number for Nadai
i. 3 » Tishram
ii. 4 » Chatushram
iii. 5 » Khandam
iv. 7 » Mishram
v. 9 » Sankeernam (i.e.: n for Nadai and 4 for Chatushram or [n – 5] i.e.: n for Nadai and 5 for
Khandam)
Note: If No Nadai is selected then 4 (Chatushra) Nadai will be selected.
Note: Manjira is Available for all combinations of Talam, Jati & Nadai
(Variations Absent) Mridangam is available for the table shown in the beginning
(Along with Indicated variations)
4. Press Start to play the Talam and Theka starts from 1.
0 = Drutam, which is a beat with the palm and then with the back of the hand.
U = Anudrutam, which is simply a beat of the hand.
1 = Laghu, which consists of a beat plus the movements of the fingers of the
hand.
5. Select the Instrument Mridangam or Manjira. Note: If the Talam is not available in Mridangam, it will be played in Manjira
automatically.
6. Adjust the desired Swaram by Pitch knob. Note: The range is from Katti 7 to Katti 7 (B to B)
7. Adjust the required Kalai (Laya) with Fast & Slow Key. Pressing the Slow key
will reduce the speed by half and pressing the fast key will increase the speed
by Double.
8. The Tempo Knob can be used to adjust the Speed.
9. Pressing variation key selects different styles of playing the same Talam
indicated in the display as th1, th2, th3 etc. and is available only when
Mridangam is playing. Note: Variation is only available when Mridangam is playing and if no variation
is available display th1 will not change
10. The use of Nadai On/Off key is possible only when Manjira is playing.
11. Adjust the relative volumes of Edam Talai & Valam Talai of the Mridangam by
pressing the switch marked as digital balance. (7 Styles) Note: Seven different styles of Digitally Tuned Balance are available for
selection on a Rotational basis.
12. Theka can be stopped at any time by pressing the STOP key.
HELPFUL HINTS
1. Use Tayyari Meter to evaluate personal practice level. Set the meter to some
desired speed using Tempo knob and practice. If you are not able to play at that
speed you need more practice. This way you can discuss Tayyari with your Guru
Bhandhus, Gurus and other Artists as to at what Tayyari you stand. Gurus can
teach the next lesson only if the student is able to perform at Tayyari as fixed
by the Guru.
2. Pressing the Fast key will have no effect once the instrument has reached the
Laya 1 (Display indication [Ly1]) range. Pressing the Slow key will have no
effect once the Instrument has reached the Laya 4 (Display indication [Ly4]).
Error sound will be produced in both the cases.
3. Any operation of the Knob & Keyboard can be performed without stopping the
Thekas.
4. Mridanga Talam is programmed to remember your last setting, and will
automatically play to your last used talam Jati & Nadai, combination when ever
the instrument is switched ON
BATTERY OPERATIONS 1. Open the Battery box at the back of the instrument to insert 8 Pencil
Cells (AA) (1.5V each).
Note: While Inserting Observe the ( + - ) marking of the Pencil Cells.
2. Switch On Raagini Digital using the Volume On / Off knob.
